The Random Thoughts of Triwi

From WoW to Aion, and lets throw in some Haruhi

I tend to favor blogging about multiple topics, I guess to add length to my posts. Anyhow time for more rambling, and lets make it “dramatic” for fun, well kinda dramatic:

Twas the day of April 24th, 2005. Fifteen year old Triwi (Your not getting my real name that easy) was given a free two week pass to the latest craze to hit the world which was the World.. of Warcraft. It was also that day that I created my first and still used until recently character Triwi. No folks, this is not where the name originated. The name originated on a random name generator on my first ever MMO, Star Wars Galaxies, but we are not here today to talk about that tale. For it is a story on it’s own (this dramatic effect doing it for any of you?). Triwi was a Troll Mage, I liked caster classes from any fantasy game I had played, so it was only natural I chose the Mage class. Who can resist throwing about fireballs at will? It’s been over four years since I first started the game, I could go on for hours telling tales I took part in, and risk carpel tunnel syndrome. Instead I’ll just briefly go through the most memorable moments.

It took me and my friends almost a year to hit level 60 back in vanilla WoW, we were young and had school, also no knowledge of the game. Not to mention this was way before the exp buff. My first raiding guild was Wintersrush, a doomed experiment to have multiple guilds come together to raid Molten Core. Eventually, as if it was not obvious, one guild tried to control it all and everything went downhill from there. Then there was Hordeland Security, my next raiding guild that for months thought I was a girl in real life, until I spoke on vent. The gasps on vent created a very comical rest of a raid. Fast forward to The Burning Crusade expansion, where I swore off raiding until Wrath of the Lich King. A small time guild starting with Party of Five, great group of folks. Like most guilds, it too fell under to drama. I then found The Dixie Mafia, whom I stayed with for a year. It was the start of Wrath of the Lich King I found the true underlying personalities of these pricks. The Dixie Mafia was a collection of double crossing backstabbers, and they sold me out because I defended a guildy. Not to mention the son of one of the members who joined at the very end of my time in the guild, I’m pretty sure was a registered sex offender, wouldn’t doubt his best friends the same either.

I don’t wanna keep rambling so I’ll shorten it more. Wrath of the Lich King came, and I joined a famous raiding guild on our server Reign of Honor. I decided I wanted to heal as a priest instead of DPS as a mage. The guild fell under from drama yet again. Near the end of my time in WoW I joined a guild called The Cuppy Cakes. My priest had become very geared in Ulduar raiding gear. My mage had decent epics as well. However, as of June 18th, 2009 a little after Noon, my account ran out of prepaid time, and I had chosen not to pay for it again.

Short answer why? I had found Aion. I got into the closed beta #2 (now I can’t be cool and say “yeah I’ve been playing since closed beta 1”)and have enjoyed the game very much. I said goodbye to my friends on a guild forums, and the rest is history. I had chosen I want to be a Spiritmaster when the game goes live. Will I ever go back to WoW? Maybe, I claim I wont, but I could relapse. It only takes one patch to totally ruin a game for everyone (Star wars galaxies “combat upgrade” anyone?), so it’s possible I could be back. The chances are slim however, as again I really enjoyed the Aion beta. I have my preorder all tucked away in my email box, with a star so I can find it easier.

So this is to the last four years, I have had some great memories playing my mage and alts. It’s time I experienced new things.

I mentioned Haruhi in the title.  At most I’m just gonna talk about the whole “what to call the new episodes.” I read a few blogs about what others thought it should be called as the universal term.   In a previous post I mentioned I was gonna call it Season 2 just because it’s easier to explain.  In reality however, I personally look at it as a extended season 1, a “Directors cut” if you will.  If that makes sense, kinda does, I guess.  To be honest, I really do not think it matters.  Yet now you know my side, because that matters.  Ok that doesn’t matter either.

I managed to find someone who hacked into the server where they keep the Haruhi new episodes, and for a limited time you can download them if y

Haruhi “Season 2”, Kannagi 14, and other stuff.

So I’ve been on an unintentional hiatus for Anime after watching all three seasons of Zero no Tsukaima back to back. Ok so technically I’m not quite done yet.. three more episodes in season three and the OVA to go, that I have been putting off cause of stupid reasons. Well any way..

So I decided to check on Haruhi and see if there was any mention of the “fabled” season two. Apperently the “season two” is actually just un-aired episodes that fit in between the original run. Technically it is, yet is not a season two, depends on how you look at it I guess. It’s a new block of episodes, but these episodes fit in with the original run. However you look at it, I suppose I’ll be calling it season 2.. because it’s easier then explaining it. I have not yet seen the episode, it’s downloading right now, so I figured write a random blog barely anyone’s gonna read to kill time. Go me I guess?

Along with Haruhi I checked out to see if any mention of bringing Kannagi out of hiatus was about. Well seeing as it really isent, I did see that they released episode 14 on the DVDs. With the power of a series of tubes we call the internet (that joke still amuses me), it’s bound to be ripped to anime sites/youtube/wherever else really fast. Sure enough it is, I couldn’t exactly find any subs on youtube, but I found it on some anime site I go to. Not in the mood to do a picture review however. I felt it didn’t have the charm the previous episodes of Kannagi had. It was alright, still goofy as ever, and the whole relationship between Jin and Nagi even if slightly progress. I still don’t like Jin but oh well, I watch it for the rest of the cast any way. By now however I highly doubt we will see new episodes or even new manga. I haven’t been actively searching for the answers, but I think it’s safe to assume nothing is gonna happen.

In the “other” portion of this mediocre quality blog post, I see that gamestop managed to get more of the Blazblue artbooks in. I asked about it and they said they were gonna fill the orders in based on when they came in. Considering I ordered mine the day after they first went off the site, I have a pretty good feeling I’ll receive one, last I checked the artbook was still a promotion put up on the site. My order receipt says nothing about it however, but according to the email I got it’s a “wait and see” scenario. I do think I managed to narrow my choice of who I might try to master to two characters. I don’t work on just one person, in Guilty Gear my two were Dizzy and Order Sol, and sometimes A.B.A. For Blazblue I’m thinking Rachel, and the apperently “Loli” v-13. Not exactly sure you can consider v-13 a Loli but I’ve seen it referenced multiple times. I’m slowly counting down the days until it comes out, I am very very anxious!

Yet another block of Anime viewing

Unlike last time where I had three episodes of anime that I watched in a long boring weekend, this time I had four!  Well lets get with reviewing them then!

Crest of the Stars

Crest of the Stars

Crest of the Stars is something a friend of mine really wanted me to watch, it was possibly the only Anime he ever actually watched.  Finally with enough begging I got around to it.  It’s a lot older then what I’m used to so that took some time to get used to.  However I thought it was overall pretty interesting, the plot took me a few replays to actually get it, and the help of wikipedia.  Unfortunately at the time of writing this it has been at least a month since I have watched the series, so I do not have much to say.  From what I do remember, it was pretty interesting.  It was hard to get into at first but eventually I started to get more absorbed into the story.  Over on Anime Planet I gave the series a 3.5 out of 5.  I felt it was decent but not an Anime that I would be crazy about.  Eventually I will follow up with the Banner of the Stars three sequals.

Chrono Crusade

Chrono Crusade

Every once in a while I find an Anime that I on purpose want to stall so that I can enjoy it longer.  First was Gurren Lagann, then was Lucky Star, and now Chrono Crusade.  Some poeple might argue it wasent that great, or it was a religious advertising tool of some sort.  However I really enjoyed the series!  From the start I could tell this series was going to be a very fun ride.  It did require a lot of thinking to get through it, and I found myself looking up religious related things on wikipedia to understand the meanings.  There’s no doubt about it, religion is a very large part of this Anime.  The ending of both the Manga (am currently reading, but accidentally found a spoiler on how it ended) and the Anime are very sad.  I was almost in tears, almost.  I felt the story really absorbed the viewers into it, at least myself.  The final battle between Chrono and Aion could have been more “epic” however, it was started then finished way too fast.  I gave it a 5 out of 5 however, I really did like it!

Yumeria cast in the real world

Yumeria cast in the dream world

I found Yumeria while looking for episodes of Chrono Crusade, which were pretty hard to find by the way.  The screen caps looked semi interesting so I picked it up right after Chrono Crusade.  It was a pretty amusing series, nothing special, but amusing none the less.   The dream world was about the only action scenes you would get out of this anime, but the dream world does take a decent portion of the story.  The story is nothing you would be talking about down the road, I could see it as one of those Anime series that you’d pick up on a rainy day.  I gave it a 4 out of a 5 mainly for the Ecchi themes (I’m a guy, are you surprised?) and the general sillyness to the story, I found it amusing.

Girl’s High

Girl's High

Right away with no research some might say this is for a female audience. However taken the standards Anime set, it’s not.  Girl’s High is an Ecchi series based on the Seinen demographic.  From the first five minutes in the ecchi is there and just screaming at you “here I am!”  The series I could compare to as being something like Azumanga Daioh or Lucky Star witch extreme amounts of Ecchi material.  It doe sent exactly have a story, it’s a Slice of Life anime that is just pure comedy.   Being in the Seinen range of a target demographic, the ecchi is there in full force.  The comedy aspect of this anime is pretty good as well.  I found myself having a chuckle out loud a lot.  I would highly suggest this to anyone who wants a comedy that’s pretty insane.  I gave it a 5 out of 5 just for how funny I found it all together.

Oh and before someone says it.. Ecchi is NOT Hentai.  It can be related to it, but it is not actually Hentai.   Besides, if your an uptight individual, just don’t watch it.  Me however, I find it amusing and yes I refer to it as a guilty pleasure.   Oh don’t worry, I got plenty more ecchi series lined up, just go look at my Anime Planet profile (one post down).  =P

I guess I put this review off long enough, it was shorter then expected but it’s done.  I just recently finished Zero no Tsukaima and am going to continue with the two follow up sesasons.  I mentioned it but I might as well say it again, my ratings are what I give it on Anime Planet.

Recently I found a great idea for myself to “increase” my anime viewing, if you could call it that.  Usually if i’m on the computer I get side tracked and put off watching new episodes of stuff.  I just bought a PSP (for free, yay selling old junk) which has some pretty impressive media options on it.  What I have been doing is ripping the episodes of a series and then converting it to a PSP format.   The watermark on the program I use to convert the video files is barely noticable, other then that you get full functionality.  Their loss, I’m not buying the product.  Usually if I can not find a series off Bleach Exile, then something like youtube, imeem, crunchyroll (rarely, I dont pay for it), veoh, etc come through.  Either way I get it, it’s not really hard at all to get it onto my psp, it’s just I get a higher quality if Bleach Exile has it.  Well I think I rambled enough about random things, till next time!

EDIT: I just wanted to add this little extra. I decided after a day or two to check my blog traffic. Two serach queries that people found my blog from were “bleach hentai” and “hentai review.” I know why they found it, because I said Ecchi is not Hentai, but I still think that’s hilarious.

Normally I’m open to people’s opinions and views, however this time I decided to call it out. I honestly wanna know why you search that on WordPress… I might find ecchi comedy apealing, but you’re the pervert.  Let the comment flames begin!

Random stuff

Well maybe it’s not too random as the topic is the same.. it being Anime again.  Just wanted to share two sites I’ve been checking out lately.

The first is Anime Planet. At this site you can record all the anime you ever watched, and the end result is how much time you’ve burned watching anime.  My profile over there shows I’ve only burned one week.  One week?  That’s terrible.. It needs to be a lot more.  Damn you real life/college homework!  Also damn WoW, curse my raiding guild needs.  Ahh I need to watch more..

Triwi - signature

Any way the second website is Kawaii Radio. I first found this internet radio station while exploring some of the content on my new PSP (which I got for free selling a lot of old junk woot) and found the internet radio application.  I downloaded it and checked out some of my favorite genres like Metal and Rock.  I saw jpop was one of the selections so I hit it, being curious. I am not a “jpop fan”, maybe every once in a while I’ll hear a tune I find catchy from an anime series or something, but that is about it.  Well Kawaii Radio was the first station to come up, and the first song I heard was the opener to Azumanga Daioh.  Every once in a while I load the radio station agian on my PSP when I’m bored or can’t sleep.  Whats nice is I can look around their forums while I listen to a few songs on it.  Figured I would give them a freebie advertise, cause I get a lot of visitors here.. right?  It’s so not denial talking right now…

I have a four part series review that I seem to keep putting off.  Maybe if I get back in the mood for reviewing here I’ll finish the draft soon.

Just a quick post

Haven’t been around this blog in a few weeks have I?  Usually I update a lot.  Three words will describe the culprit in full detail: World of Warcraft.  Specifically I rolled a Priest and have been healing a new raiding guild so my Anime time has been cut into.  I have been slowly watching some series though instead of all packed into one night like I used to. I got done with Girl’s High (as a guilty pleasure, I watched it. Hey I’m the target demographic: Seinen, so stop looking at me like that!) and am about half way through with Chrono Crusade.  After Chrono I plan on watching Negima (which is a very long series then what I usually watch, if you include the sequels).

I actually got around to buying some manga for fun. I got the first edition of Chrono Crusade and Negima. I still plan on watching the anime’s of course, but I will also read the manga.  Usually there are differences I hear any way.  Expect another 3 part series review semi soon!

Anime Overload (As if that’s possible)

So for some reason I got into an even deeper Anime watching mood this past week.  I’ve been watching Anime for a good portion of my life off and on, it’s only been about two years that it became almost an obsession to the point I’m watching full series weekly.  Since Kannagi has ended (well at least until I hope for a second season), and a second season of Haruhi Suzumiya has not blessed us anime fans yet, obviously I go and search a new series.  I can’t recall what lead me to it, but Love Hina was the first on my list.  I remember seeing bits and pieces of the manga and anime when I was younger, I never really did watch it.

After I finished Love Hina, I saw Please Teacher in the “similar videos” on the side.  I remember hearing about that from a commercial way back when it was new, so seeing it was also a romantic comedy I checked that out too.  From there, a small amount of research showed me the sequel, Please Twins which, was another romantic comedy.  It’s not so much the romance part, as it is the comedy part that made me want to watch them.  So I figure I might as well do a paragraph or two about each series.

Love Hina

The wings have nothing to do with the story, but I think wings are sexy.

The wings have nothing to do with the story, but I think wings are sexy.

Starting up in this past week of my Anime lineup was Love Hina.  I’d like to start this section by giving my quick thoughts on the ever famous war of: Sub vs dubs.  Love Hina dubs for the most part I could tolerate, I’m not much of a critic when it comes to voice acting.  Kaolla Su at first was annoying, it grew on me eventually however.  Something about her yelling “Mecha-toma Three! Go!” made me laugh.  Here’s where I go into my rare dub critic mode.  Of all the voices, it was the main character Keitaro, that got on my nerves.  Perhaps it was the fact that I didn’t feel like reading much, cause I was having a caffeine hangover from new years, but I stuck it with the dubs the whole way through.  Keitaro’s nerdy voice as the series went on, annoyed me more and more.  The rest of the cast didn’t really get to me, but the fact Keitaro is the main character, I would suggest going subs, that is if your not having a caffeine overdose at the time.

Other then the voice acting, I thought it was an enjoyable series.  I felt it had a very good balance of drama and comedy.  Lets not forget plenty of fan service!  The various scenes of Naru, or most of the other girls screaming out “YOU PERVERT” and launching Keitaro into the atmosphere never got old.  I could tell almost right away Naru would have been the girl from when he was a kid, that he made the promise to, I think that’s pretty obvious.

Overall, I would highly suggest this series, both for the drama and the comedy.  I think the story telling was pretty well done.  The OVA’s however seem to be a little under the standards as the rest of the series.  Kanako right away becomes a very annoying character, and even though she and Keitaro are not related by blood, she is still psychotic.

Please Teacher

Main cast of Onegai Teacher.

The main cast of Onegai Teacher.

Please Teacher was next on my list.  We’ve all heard stories about a student having some kind of a relationship with a teacher.  Please Teacher is the same basic idea, except the teacher is a half alien and the main character is actually 18 in a 15 year old body.  The series I found to be pretty funny.  The storyline I found to be pretty bizarre.  Anything from having to marry your teacher to cover up the fact she is an alien, to Ichigo actually being 21, there are plenty of moments that will give you a double take effect.

I again watched the series in dubs, for some reason they were easier to find and better video quality at the time.  I did not find any real serious problems with the English voice acting.  Please Teacher however, does have its faults.  The story line itself, while it is decent, I couldn’t help but feel it was lacking in some way.  I can not exactly say what, but in the end the story felt a little underwhelming.

In the end, Please Teacher was an interesting series, complete with a LOT of fan service.  Considering it is a short series, if you have not already seen it, might be worth while if your interested in something short.

Please Twins

The three main characters of Onegai Twins.

The three main characters of Onegai Twins.

Please Twins is the sequal to Please Teacher, set in the same town yet two years later.  I thought it was pretty neat that they used most of the characters from the first series.  Please Twins was not as much of a bizarre story in my opinion, compared to its prequel. The fact however both Miina and Karen were falling in love with Maiku, and one of them was a relative, could be rated as bizarre however.  It’s the fact that one of them was not related that was a catalyst for these feelings.

I think you can guess that I watched this in dubs as well.  Considering I did not have a problem with Please Teacher’s dubs, I figured these would not be a problem as well.  They were not a problem like I thought, but right away I could recognize the voice actor that played Maiku.  Johnny Yong Bosch, who was also the voice of Ichigo from Bleach,  Lelouch from Code Geass, and Itsuki Koizumi from Haruhi Suzumiya, seems to be in a lot of major parts.   It’s only a matter of time before I hear his unique voice as another main character.

Please Twins story line, just like Please Teacher, felt a little underwhelming.  Perhaps it’s because i’m just coming down from watching Haruhi Suzumiya and Code Geass, that I feel a little more picky on story lines.  Yet again like Please Teacher, I would suggest giving this anime a shot if your searching for a short series again.  Of course watch Please Teacher first, this is the sequel!  While not necessarily important, it adds a lot to the story.  This sequel too, gives you a lot of fan service, so that is a plus.  Who doesn’t like a lot of fan service?  It can be over used yes, but I doubt for my tastes it will get that far.

Well thats about it, I got three more lined up to watch.  Those three would be Crest of the Stars, Chrono Crusade, and Negima.  The first two were recommended by some people I know, Negima I found by chance while surfing Anime News Network.  I took a peak at all three to see if I should go sub or dub.  I can tell both Crest and Negima’s dubs are very poorly done, so I will be going the sub route.  Chrono Crusade however, have not compared those yet.  Might as well go subs while I’m at it though.  Which one will I watch first? I guess I will flip a coin, and by coin I mean, some freaky three sided coin I just made up.

Kannagi Episode 13 – Jin goes “dere”

Seems like only yesterday I was asking if I should even consider watching Kannagi. It’s a shame we find ourselves at the finale so soon.  At least Code Geass kept me wanting more for a few months.  The last three episodes in my opinion were lacking the charm like the first ten had.  Never the less here’s my “review.”

Nagiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!! =( *sad panda*

Nagiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!! =( *sad panda*

Finally Nagi has some more air time on her own show.  Not much to say about this scene though, Nagi was sad, it was raining, etc.  Quite sad she was feeling this way however.

Yeah Tsugumi! Preach it!

Yeah Tsugumi! Preach it!

Tsugumi is always the voice of reason.  It’s unfortunate that Jin is too blind to see how she really feels, so she’s often getting her hopes up for nothing.  However if it wasn’t for her, you can bet Jin would have gotten no where near where he is now.  In my opinion, she is the unsung heroine of the story.  Gif Mo’ Tsugumi!  I’m a sucker for red haired girls too. =O

I coulden't help but think, what with the music and the mood, the words "Drama Category Nominee" to pop up.

I coulden't help but think, what with the music and the mood, the words "Drama Category Nominee" were going to pop up.

Yeah I’m a bit heartless, just didn’t wanna see her crying and stuff.  Overall a very emotional scene.  I want my comedy back.

She said that a little too easily..

It's cute I guess, I just don't like Jin..

Once a Perv, always a Perv!

Once a Perv, always a Perv!

At least the whole sad/emo/just plain drama seems to be somewhat over.  I still want my comedy back like the first ten episodes. -_-  Meh I’m bitter I guess.

Jin is not gonna have an excuse for this one.

...Damn she cracked him in the head hard o.O

...Damn she cracked him in the head hard o.O

Ahh there the comedy I’ve been waiting for, well ten seconds or so of it.

I didn’t really have much to say about the episode itself, what I do want to rant about is if there will be a second season or not.  I have very little doubt in my mind there will be a second season.  Lets start it from a business point of view.  The DVD sales seem to be doing well, they are usually high up in DVD rankings, according to Anime News Network any way.  If your gonna look at it from a business point of view, I would really think pursuing a second season would be a wise decision.  It’s a popular series, a lot of people want a second season, including myself.  The Kannagi Mangaka is getting back to writing very soon (if she has not already) any how, there is more to this story left.

I reference it a lot but Azumanga Daioh and Lucky star basically “had” to end because the story was at the end of their time in school for the main characters, which basically was the story.  Kannagi on the other hand, has plenty of a time line left that can continue a story.  Lets not forget their are plenty of things left unanswered.  I’m aware of course it can just continue as a manga, and not do an anime.  That would be very disappointing though, and I see no reason in discontinuing the anime series.

Of course, this could all just me rationalizing, well whatever it is I still want a second season.  Again, using that saying I despise, yet remains true: Only time will tell.  I hate waiting though. =\
